Deep Watermelon

9″ x 6″ ink on paper. Hand-signed and dated.

I’ve made a lot of art that I’m quick to judge as not good enough to share. This was one of those pieces – until my mom saw it on my desk and said it was really beautiful, and I recognized my own perfectionism trying to keep me safe by not sharing the things that I don’t think are good enough.

Well, perfectionism, I thank you for trying to protect me, but I don’t need you anymore. I know there’s someone out there who wants what I have to offer and thinks it’s perfect exactly as it is.
